Remote Jobs Hiring Now: 4 Legit Companies You Can Verify Today (Sept 2026)

You find a listing that looks perfect, click apply, and find out later it was filled months ago. It happens constantly, which is why most job boards deserve some skepticism.

So instead of pulling from aggregator sites, I went straight to four companies' own careers pages and pulled what was actually posted, checked on September 27, 2026. Below is what's open, what they're paying where that's public, and how to tell a real listing from a scam.

What's open right now

Rank Math currently lists ten roles on its own hiring page, including WordPress Developer, Content Writer, and a couple of marketing positions. No salary is published, and you apply straight through their site.

Automattic has a Brand or Creative Designer role open on its official Greenhouse board, with a salary range of $95,000 to $200,000 USD listed on the posting itself.

Zapier's careers page shows engineering and product openings, including a Senior Software Engineer and a Product Designer role. Pay isn't published for either.

YC's Work at a Startup platform has thousands of listings from companies that went through the accelerator, spanning marketing, growth, and engineering roles, with salary shown on some but not all of them.

Rank Math builds the WordPress SEO plugin used across a huge number of sites, and the team runs fully remote. Ten roles are open on their hiring page as of this writing: Head of Marketing, WordPress Developer, WordPress Content Writer, Customer Support Specialist, Front End Designer or Developer, and a Google/Facebook Ads role among them.

Rank Math emphasizes willingness to learn over a long list of formal requirements, though that varies by role, so read each posting before applying. Applications go through their own form on rankmath.com, no recruiter in between.

Automattic

Automattic runs Wordpress.com, WooCommerce, and Tumblr, among other products, with more than 1,400 employees across 80-plus countries.

The confirmed open role is a Brand or Creative Designer position, paying $95,000 to $200,000 USD according to the posting. Most Automattic roles include a paid trial project before an offer, so candidates actually work on something close to the job rather than being judged on an interview alone.

Automattic also warns on its own site about scammers impersonating its recruiters. Worth remembering for any job, not just this one: if a hiring message feels off, verify it through the company's actual website first.

Zapier

Zapier runs fully distributed with no office requirement. Open roles right now include Senior Software Engineer and Lead Product Designer positions, both listed on their official careers page.

Zapier says candidates should not go more than seven days without hearing back during the hiring process. That's their stated policy, worth knowing going in.

Y Combinator startups

YC's internal team isn't hiring much at the moment, but its Work at a Startup platform lists thousands of roles at companies that came through its accelerator. A few examples pulled from the board: a Product Marketing Manager role at Blee, a Growth and Marketing Lead at Bluejay paying $100,000 to $200,000, and a Head of Communications at Corgi Insurance paying $180,000 to $260,000.

One important distinction: a YC-backed company is not the same thing as a YC-verified job. Getting into the accelerator means the company passed YC's own selection process, not that every listing has been checked or that the company is financially stable long-term. Startups carry more risk than established companies by nature. Use the platform to find leads, then verify each one yourself.

How to spot a fake listing

A mismatched email domain or an odd payment request doesn't automatically mean a scam, but it's a reason to slow down and check.

• Go to the company's website yourself instead of clicking a link someone sent you.

• Find their real careers page and compare the job title and description.

• If the recruiter's email doesn't match the company's domain, verify through the official site before replying.

• Never pay money, gift cards, or fees to get hired or "start onboarding."

• Don't install a remote-access app just because someone claiming to be a recruiter tells you to.

• Hold off on sending ID documents or bank details before any real offer is made.

• When unsure, contact the company through its official support line to confirm the recruiter and role actually exist.

On the salary numbers

The figures above come from each company's own posting at the time I checked. Pay can shift by location and experience, and a range listed in US dollars doesn't mean every applicant gets the same number. Confirm actual compensation with the employer directly once you're in the process.

Bottom line

Rank Math, Automattic, Zapier, and the startups on YC's platform all had real, current openings as of this writing. Job boards change fast though, so the habit worth keeping isn't this list, it's checking official career pages yourself and running through the verification steps above before you send anything to a stranger claiming to have your next job.
